An Inspired and Reflective Farewell to the Holiday Season
As the celebrations of December recede and a new year begins, An Epiphany Celebration offers a quieter ChoralArt tradition: an evening of extraordinary music, poetry, reflection, and light.
ChoralArt Camerata is joined by organist Hentus van Rooyen and poet J. Barrie Shepherd for a program spanning centuries of choral music.
Steven Sametz’s ecstatic Gaudete opens the evening, followed by Victoria’s classic O Magnum Mysterium. Philipp Nicolai’s sublime How Lovely Shines the Morning Star, arranged by Sidney Boner, leads to Jonathan Dove’s astonishing Seek Him that Maketh the Seven Stars, a luminous setting of words from the Book of Amos.
A beautiful setting of a traditional Basque carol by Leo Nestor then gives way to a Celtic Interlude featuring violinist Rose Underkofler and mandolinist Chris Moore.
Frank Ticheli’s expansive There Will Be Rest precedes Bryan Kelly’s rhapsodic Magnificat in C, featuring Hentus van Rooyen at the organ.
And finally, ChoralArt sends you homeward with our rapturous closer: One Sweet Little Baby.
