For many, the holiday season begins with Christmas at the Cathedral.
Join the ChoralArt Singers, the Portland Brass Quintet, and organist Bridgette Wargovich in the magnificent Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for an event filled with soaring voices, brilliant brass, beloved carols, and moments of breathtaking wonder.
This year’s program begins with ChoralArt’s signature processional, Personent Hodie Voces Puerulae, in a festive setting for voices, brass quintet, and organ. The program moves through a cappella motets, music for brass quintet, and traditional carols, including our annual audience sing-along.
Hear Morten Lauridsen’s sumptuous O Magnum Mysterium and Anton Bruckner’s timeless Ave Maria, along with Jackson Berkey’s exuberant Magnificat and Music Director Robert Russell’s brass and organ arrangements of “Worthy Is the Lamb” and “Amen” from Handel’s Messiah.
The Portland Brass Quintet takes center stage for selections from the Baroque era and arrangements of some familiar seasonal carols. As the performance draws to a close, the ChoralArt Singers offer Marques Garrett’s deeply moving My Heart Be Brave.
Finally, voices will fill the Cathedral with ChoralArt’s traditional candlelit Silent Night. The annual audience favorite sets the seasonal tone of transcendent awe and wonder.
